Caring for your contact lenses
- Contact lenses must be properly cleaned and disinfected, both when you remove them and put them on. This habit helps to kill germs and prevent infections
- After wearing your contact lenses, it is important to thoroughly rinse the case with warm water and then allow it to dry.
- Do not put your lens in your mouth and then in your eye.
- Do not use homemade cleaning solutions or saliva to clean the lenses. These can be potentially harmful and may cause serious eye infections. Ask your eye doctor about risks of wearing lenses.
- Do not sterilize disposable lenses. By virtue of them being disposable, they should be thrown away after use.
- Avoid using and mixing different brands of eye solutions to clean the lenses. Use only the brand prescribed by your eye doctor and check before changing brands.
Wear Your Lenses Properly
- Always make it a habit of washing your hands with soap and water before handling contact lenses or touching your eyes.
- Never share your contact lenses with any other person.
- Avoid repeated removal and insertion of lenses during the day.
- Always use lenses, whether prescription or cosmetic only after consulting an eye care professional
- Adhere to the schedule prescribed by your doctor
- Dispose of your lenses as per the schedule and at the intervals prescribed by your doctor.
If you experience any discomfort with your contact lenses consult your doctor immediately. The symptoms that you must be aware of are painful eyes, redness in eyes, blurry vision, scratchy eyes and discharge from the eyes.
